AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim has spoken at a press conference on the eve of the derby against Inter, calling for calm and patience despite the heavy home defeat to Bologna. The Portuguese manager acknowledged that the team still has much to improve, but stressed that the goal remains to win every match.
Amorim also praised the support of owner Gerry Cardinale, emphasising that building a competitive team takes time. “We cannot build strong foundations if we have to face problems like these in the middle of the season. We need time to grow and improve the team, but we want to win every match,” the coach said.
He described the Milan derby as a special fixture, comparing the atmosphere to the rivalries he has experienced in Portugal. According to him, Italian football culture has many similarities with the Portuguese one, while the responsibility to win and the passion of the fans make this challenge unique.
“The league title always remains the objective, but it becomes harder and harder since we have dropped several points. For me, we must also think about improving and keep fighting. We want to win, but we do not want to become champions one year and find ourselves in the same situation the next year.
When you are Milan, the objective is the league title, but today we must understand that we have a gap with the teams leading the table. If we win the next match, everything will calm down, but the objective remains winning the title. I don’t know how long it will take us to achieve this.”
