Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as one of the candidates to take over at Manchester United, while the future of Michael Carrick in the “Red Devils” dugout has increasingly come into question following disappointing results.
According to reporting by “TalkSport”, the club’s executives have begun considering alternatives for the position in case they decide to end their working relationship with Carrick.
The heavy 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League has increased the pressure on the coach, as Manchester United have gone seven consecutive matches without a win in all competitions.
Nagelsmann, 39, is rated highly by some club officials and was among the names considered before Carrick’s appointment as permanent coach last May. However, his commitment to the German national team and Carrick’s positive results during his period as interim coach hindered the progress of negotiations.
The list of candidates also includes Fabian Hürzeler, Brighton’s coach, Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe, Mauricio Pochettino and Kieran McKenna. Another option is Simone Inzaghi, currently in charge of Al-Hilal, who is facing mounting pressure.
However, not everyone supports the idea of appointing Nagelsmann. Alex Crook, a journalist at “TalkSport”, has raised concerns about his experience with Germany, his character and his possible relationships with club executives.
