The ninth round of Serie A produced important results, with Genoa beating Juventus 2-0 at the “Luigi Ferraris”, while Napoli secured a convincing 4-1 away win over Monza.
Juventus suffered an unexpected away defeat, losing 2-0 to Genoa. The hosts broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, when Kingsley Ehizibue found the net after an assist from Tommaso Baldanzi.
The latter became the protagonist again in the 28th minute, scoring Genoa’s second goal. In this case, a deflection off Gleison Bremer played a role in the outcome of the move, giving the hosts a two-goal lead before the break.
After the interval, Juventus tried to respond, but the introduction of Edon Zhegrova was not enough to change the course of the match. Genoa kept their lead until the end and celebrated an important victory. Mario Mitaj also came on as a substitute during the match.
Unlike Juventus, Napoli returned to winning ways, defeating Monza 4-1 away.
Rasmus Højlund put the Neapolitans ahead in the 10th minute, after an assist from Giovanni Di Lorenzo. However, the hosts responded in the 43rd minute, when Gustavo Varela equalized with a header following a cross from Jay Robinson.
The second half was completely in Napoli’s favor. Matteo Politano scored in the 48th minute, Rafa Marín netted the third goal in the 62nd minute, and Kevin De Bruyne sealed the 4-1 result in the 67th minute.
