Harry Kane is getting ever closer to a historic Champions League record. The Bayern Munich English striker is aiming to break the achievement of Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds the record for the most consecutive matches with a goal in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
The Portuguese star scored in 11 consecutive Champions League matches, from June 2017 to April 2018. Meanwhile, Kane has scored in nine consecutive games and is now just two matches away from equalling CR7’s record.
The English striker’s run began at the end of the league phase last season, with two goals against Union Saint-Gilloise and another against PSV. He then found the net in the second leg of the round of 16 against Atalanta, before scoring in both legs of the quarter-finals and semi-finals against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Kane has continued this form in the current season, scoring in the first two league-phase matches against Bodø/Glimt and Viking.
To equal Ronaldo’s record, the Englishman must score in his next two matches, while to break it he needs to score in Bayern Munich’s next three games, against Arsenal, Atlético Madrid and Lille, respectively.
The clash with Arsenal could be a good opportunity for the striker, considering his history against the London side. While playing for Tottenham, Kane scored 15 goals in 22 appearances against London rivals.
If he keeps up the same pace, the 32-year-old will also surpass Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robert Lewandowski, who have scored in nine consecutive Champions League matches.
