Inter under Cristian Chivu has started the season with positive results, bouncing back after disappointments in the Champions League. Now, the Nerazzurri leadership must also think about the future of the squad, with several important renewals on the table.
The home defeat to Club Brugge was a heavy blow for Inter, while the loss in Madrid was more understandable. However, the team responded in matches against Bologna and Shakhtar, where Marcus Thuram and Carlos Augusto stood out.
The French striker scored a decisive goal against Bologna, while the Brazilian contributed an assist and a goal in the 3-1 win, before also scoring the winning goal against the Ukrainians despite being numerically disadvantaged.
Both players have less than two years left on their contracts and are expected to be among the priorities of sporting director Dario Baccin. Inter must also address the renewals of Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, Manuel Akanji, Benjamin Pavard and Piotr Zieliński.
For Carlos Augusto, a new contract could also bring a pay rise and more responsibility in the squad, while Thuram is considered an undisputed starter.
The most urgent issue remains Hakan Çalhanoğlu, whose contract expires next June. Inter must decide whether to offer him a renewal with revised financial terms or let him leave for free.
