After a disappointing week in the Champions League, Italian football has responded in the best possible way. All Serie A clubs won their third-round matches, improving Italy’s position in the UEFA rankings and raising hopes of an extra Champions League place next season.
Italian football has reason to smile again on the European stage. Napoli, Como and Roma shone with convincing victories, scoring four goals each in their matches, while Inter secured three points with a narrow win over Shakhtar.
The Nerazzurri’s success gained even more value because of the difficulties during the match, as Inter played with one man fewer after Bastoni’s red card.
These results have directly affected the race for UEFA’s seasonal coefficients, a ranking that determines which leagues can earn an extra Champions League place for next season.
Thanks to the positive results, Italy has reached 6.357 points, placing fifth. The gap with Spain, which holds second place with 6.750 points, has narrowed to just 0.393 points.
At the top is England with 7.388 points, followed by Spain, then Germany and Turkey.
However, the race remains open and much will depend on results across all European competitions. Milan and Juventus in the Europa League, as well as Atalanta in the Conference League, can contribute to improving Italy’s position.
