Marcus Thuram is becoming a key figure and leader at Inter, reaching the level of captain Lautaro Martínez, especially in the latter’s absence. His decisive performance, such as against Fiorentina, has impressed everyone, but not those who follow him closely at Appiano Gentile. The club has noticed a new Thuram, more determined than ever, without the previous interruptions during matches.
The latest push has also come from his non-selection for the national team. This allowed him to train while his teammates were with their national sides, increasing his hidden desire to wear the France shirt again. Currently, he is the striker who keeps Inter in the game, especially in critical moments, serving as a mainstay for the team.
The desire for a long-term partnership is mutual. Thuram wants to stay at Inter, following in the footsteps of idols like Adriano and Ronaldo, while the club is convinced it cannot find such a decisive striker with such harmony with Lautaro at a reasonable cost. Sporting director Dario Baccin, together with Beppe Marotta, has already started talks with the player’s agents. Although no specific figures have been discussed, the shared will to continue together is clear.
It does not appear that other clubs are ready for a major investment in a striker of this age and with a salary of six million euros net per season. The 85 million euro release clause, valid each year until early July, is considered almost a formality, keeping the price at a very high level. The tax benefits from the “Decreto Crescita” offer room for a minimal salary increase, without exceeding the financial limits set by the Oaktree fund, which seeks more modern and “rewarding” agreements, linked to bonuses for appearances and goals.
In Inter’s camp, optimism about Thuram’s renewal is greater than in other similar situations. After the renewal of Carlos Augusto, who will be announced soon with a contract until 2031, Calhanoglu and Dimarco are on the list. However, Thuram’s file will develop over time, as there is no particular rush from outside. On the pitch, Marcus is not looking back, scoring in seven consecutive matches at San Siro in Serie A, a fact that has not gone unnoticed.
