Goalkeeper Owono could face serious legal consequences if he is found guilty of causing death by gross negligence while carrying out his sporting activity.
According to Spanish legislation, should his criminal liability be proven, the footballer could be sentenced to between 1 and 4 years in prison. In addition to this penalty, the court may also impose a ban on practising the profession for a period of up to 6 years.
Meanwhile, the National Police in Spain has launched an investigation to fully clarify the incident. This is a standard procedure followed by the authorities in cases of unnatural deaths, with the aim of determining the circumstances and possible responsibilities.
However, it is important to emphasise that at this stage Owono has not faced any formal charges and there is no conviction against him.
The investigation is expected to determine whether the goalkeeper’s actions constitute a violation of the law and whether there are elements that could lead to criminal liability.
