Real Madrid beat Barcelona 1-2 at Camp Nou, ending the Catalans’ nine-match winning streak in La Liga. Kylian Mbappé was Madrid’s protagonist, scoring the first goal and the winner in the final minutes of the match.
The first “El Clasico” of this season delivered emotions right to the end, with Real Madrid taking all three points in a hard-fought clash, while Barcelona failed to keep their positive run in the league.
Madrid took the lead in the 41st minute. After a quick move and a combination with Marc Cucurella, Yan Diomande sent the ball into the box. Gerard Martín failed to clear it properly, and the ball, after deflecting off Kylian Mbappé’s legs, ended up in the net for a 0-1 score.
Barcelona got back into the game in the 61st minute. After a quickly taken corner and an assist from Pedri, Raphinha beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, restoring parity at Camp Nou.
Just two minutes later, Real Madrid came close again to the go-ahead goal with Arda Güler, but Joan García reacted successfully to save Barcelona’s goal. The Catalans also had a chance to take the lead in the 66th minute, when Gerard Martín headed a cross from a corner, but Lunin made another decisive save.
When everything seemed headed for the final minutes with the score level, Real Madrid struck in the 88th minute. After a quick counterattack, Eduardo Camavinga played in Kylian Mbappé, who scored his second personal goal and sealed the 1-2 win for his team.
The first defeat after nine consecutive league wins does not knock Barcelona off top spot. The Catalans remain in first place with 27 points, followed by Atlético Madrid with 25 points, while Real Madrid climbs to 24 points and holds third place.
