The match between Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon, scheduled for Sunday at 20:45, risks being postponed due to the tense situation in France. The police have requested a change of the match date, fearing an escalation of protests and an outbreak of new incidents.
According to the French sports newspaper L’Équipe, the Ligue 1 fixture could be played on Monday if the authorities decide that security cannot be guaranteed over the weekend.
The violent protests that have engulfed the country have heightened police concerns, while the Yellow Vest movement and trade unions are preparing new demonstrations. Authorities fear that gatherings of fans and sporting activities could create conditions for further incidents.
According to figures published by French media, more than 2,400 people were arrested over the weekend, while thousands of businesses were damaged or looted.
The situation has also affected the French football calendar. The match between Toulouse and Troyes has been moved from Saturday to Sunday, while the Second Division fixture between Montpellier and Red Star has been postponed to Monday.
Security measures were also reinforced on Tuesday during the Champions League match between PSG and Barcelona, where around 5,000 police officers were deployed, including special units equipped with water cannons.
A possible postponement of PSG-Lyon would also create a clash with the Golden Ball ceremony, planned for Monday, where several players from the Parisian club, nominated for the main individual awards, are expected to attend.
