Manchester United is going through a difficult moment after suffering another heavy defeat, losing 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. The latest defeat has increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick, whose position at the helm of the “Red Devils” appears increasingly uncertain.
The situation in the United camp is alarming. The team sits 16th in the table with just seven points, only one point above the relegation zone. Furthermore, the club has not won in eight matches across all competitions, while difficult fixtures against Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool lie ahead.
Another issue that has sparked controversy is Carrick’s decision to leave captain and one of the squad’s most important players, Bruno Fernandes, on the bench. The decision came just four days after the Portuguese midfielder had publicly questioned the coach’s tactical approach.
Carrick justified his choice as a purely sporting decision, but Fernandes’ absence on the pitch was felt in the team’s play. The decision has also been interpreted as a punitive measure against the captain, although the coach has not confirmed any such thing.
After the defeat, Carrick acknowledged that the situation is difficult, but stressed that he will continue to give his all for the club.
“It is a difficult situation and we will not lie to each other. I don’t really know what will happen. I will always do my best for this club and I will not change now”, the coach said.
