Albania sow an increase in medicinal plants export in 2014
The export of medicinal plants has increased tremendously in latest years, especially during the year we left and the main market remains is the United States and some countries of the European Union, according to figures published by the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture on Sunday.
During January-December 2014 period, the export of aromatic medicinal plants reached 11,600 tons, from 11,200 tons in 2013. In monetary terms, exports reached the amount of Lek 3.5 billion ( 28 million U.S. dollars) during 2014, Lek 2 billion ( 16 million U.S. dollars) more than in 2013.
The export of medicinal plants has shown positive performance since the beginning of this type of business in Albania since 1990, recalled Albanian daily news.
In the previous years, American and international companies came to Albania and started borrowing lands in alpine areas for purposes of use in gathering natural medicinal plants, but in later years even Albanian citizens have opened their businesses in this sector and have started to export plants.
