This policy explains what the Gazeta Koha Jonë iOS and Android app collects, what stays on your phone, and which outside services are involved. The app is published by Media Koha Jonë (publisher: Nikoll Lesi). This policy also applies to this website page.
The app is a news reader. There is no account or sign-in, and we never ask for your name, email address, phone number, home address or location.
We do not use advertising trackers or advertising identifiers, and we do not sell personal data. Your saved articles, followed sections and reading preferences stay on your phone. If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can send them. You can disable notifications at any time. If you use AI features, your question or the relevant article text is sent to an AI provider to generate a response.
What stays on your device
Your saved articles (MyKoha), followed sections, unread markers, theme, text size, home menu order and recent searches are stored locally on your device. The app also uses the articles and sections you open to personalise the “Për ty” feed on your device. Previously generated AI summaries are saved locally so they do not need to be requested again. A cache of recently viewed feeds, onboarding progress and tip progress is also stored locally.
This locally stored information is not sent to us as reading-history data. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage in your device’s system settings removes this information.
What is sent over the network
News content
The app loads articles, categories, videos and images from kohajone.com, which provides the same public content as the website. Like any server, ours receives your IP address, device and app type, and the time of each request.
Push notifications (optional)
If you allow notifications, the app sends an Expo push token and your platform (iOS or Android) to our server so we can notify you about new articles. We do not link this token to a name or account. Notifications are delivered through Expo, Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). You can turn notifications off in the app’s Settings or your phone’s settings to request removal of the token from our server.
KOHA AI (Ask tab)
When you send a question, it goes to our server, which finds relevant published articles and sends your question, a short chat history and article excerpts to OpenRouter. OpenRouter routes the request to a language model, currently Google Gemini, to draft an answer. Answers are based on our articles but may be inaccurate. Do not enter passwords, personal data or confidential information into Ask. Answers may be cached briefly on our server to avoid repeat requests.
Article summaries
When you tap “Përmbledhje nga Koha Jonë AI”, the article title and text, up to approximately 8,000 characters, are sent to our server and then to OpenRouter to produce short Albanian bullet points. The resulting summary is saved on your device.
Abuse limits and security
To help prevent abuse of the AI and search features, our server counts requests per IP address using a hashed form that expires after approximately one hour. We may also keep standard server logs. We do not use this information for advertising or profiling.
App updates and performance
The app checks Expo’s servers for updates and sends Expo anonymous app-performance metrics, such as launch time and device and operating system type, so we can maintain app performance. These metrics do not contain reading history.
House ads
Editors may display promotional banners in the app. These banners are fetched from our own server, so your device does not contact the advertiser’s ad server merely to display them. Tapping a banner opens the advertiser’s link in your browser, where the advertiser’s own privacy policy applies.
Embedded video and social posts
If an article includes YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or X (Twitter) content, that service may load within the article and collect information or set cookies under its own privacy policy. If you do not open or load that content, those services are not contacted by the app for that content.
What we do not collect
The app does not collect GPS coordinates or location data, contacts, camera content, microphone recordings or photos. It does not use advertising identifiers (IDFA or GAID), and it does not use Apple App Tracking Transparency. The app does not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Third parties
OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to process questions, article excerpts and content required to generate KOHA AI answers and article summaries. You can read the OpenRouter privacy policy.
Expo supports push token delivery, app updates and performance metrics. You can read the Expo privacy policy. Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) deliver push notifications.
YouTube and Google, Instagram and Facebook (Meta), and X (Twitter) may process information when their videos or social posts are loaded within articles. Their respective privacy policies apply to those services.
Apple App Store and Google Play distribute the app and process information under their respective privacy policies and terms.
We do not sell personal data or provide third parties with lists of readers for marketing.
Children’s privacy
The app is a general-audience newspaper and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices and rights
You can turn off notifications in the app’s Settings or your phone’s settings to request removal of your push token from our server. You can remove locally stored information by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage.
You can contact us with questions about information processed through the app, or to request applicable restrictions, object to processing or request removal of a push token. Your rights depend on applicable Albanian personal-data law and, where relevant, the GDPR.
