Albanian govt provides subvention grants for supporting agriculture sector
The number of agricultural greenhouses in Albania is expected to have a four to five fold growth in the future. Minister of Agriculture Edmond Panariti declared during “Supporting Novelties in Agribusiness’ conference held in Tirana on Wednesday that the government aims at backing farmers through farm loans. Panariti presented a supporting plan and according to it, the government will provide a subvention at 60 percent for agricultural farms. Moreover, negotiations have started with second tier banks that are expected to provide 40 percent of the needed funds.
“We plan to increase the surface of agricultural greenhouses up to 3,000 hectares. The organization of farmers is an important factor, but we must increase supply and found markets. Given that climate changes pose a risk to agriculture, greenhouses make a controlled and safe investment,” Minister Panariti said.
On his part, Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi highlighted that more support for farmers will generate more jobs and a hike in incomes. Thus, he appealed to second tier banks to give impetus to the agricultural sector as it boasts a major potential of development.
Further on, Ambassador of Italy to Tirana Massimo Gaiani declared that the Italian state is ready to offer financial support as well as professional assistance in order to improve the technology used in agriculture.
