Battle for oil, Rama: “Will not allow our assets to get exploited”

The Albanian Prime Minister announced the start of an international audit of the “Bankers Petroleum” concessionary agreement with the Albanian government.

A financial audit of the National Agency of Natural Resources showed that Bankers has covered with profits all their investments by 2011, and since then they should have paid 50% of their profits in taxes.

“The international audit will give the results of all problems that this company has with the Albanian government and citizens. The company will be held responsible for any problem, the same way they would be held responsible in the USA, Canada, France, Germany or anywhere else. We do not have the luxury to close our eyes and lose even a liter of oil from this asset that was not given to us by foreigners, and foreigners will not be able to take it from us as they wish”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister declared that the government has inherited scandalous agreements with companies that exploit the underground assets. But the agreements that will be signed in the future will not allow the exploiting of Albanian assets, the Prime Minister added.

“There will be no ghost companies which come to Albania and find the right ousin to open resources so they can take as much as they can from the oil of the Albanian people. Every new agreement in our government will not only be of international standards, but they will also be done with big names, without any stain in the international market”, Rama added.
