German Ambassador: Germany will return asylum seekers
The German Ambassador in Tirana, Helmut Hoffman, considered the increased number of asylum seekers from Albania as very concerning. He said that 1650 Albanians have requested asylum only for January. Hoffman said that they will return to Albania. He underlined that Germany is proud for the tradition of accepting asylum seekers, but economic asylum seekers will not be accepted.
“These movements are an economic burden also for the countries of origin. These people must build their future and their economic perspective here, so that the EU perspective can be closer”, Hoffman declared.
The German ambassador spoke positively about the territorial reform in Albania. He said that it is an important project and the fact that it is supported by many donators shows that they have had strong reasons to support it.
“My general message is that all parties should contribute and be part of the local elections. As for the territorial reform, it should be realized as soon as possible. I think that the territorial reform is a very important project supported by various donators, who had reasons to support it. Its main goal is to reform the administrative structures throughout the country in a more efficient way. I think that the territorial reform is the right path”, the German ambassador declared.
The German Ambassador made these declarations during a visit in Elbasan, where he was received by Mayor Qazim Sejdini.
