Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Visiting Albania to Boost Cooperation

Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki is visiting Albania on Monday as part of intensified contacts between the two Balkan neighbours.

Poposki is scheduled to meet his Albanian counterpart Ditmir Bushati and Prime Minister Edi Rama as well as the head of the foreign affairs committee in Parliament, Arta Dade, the Foreign Ministry in Skopje said in a press release.

Poposki’s one-day visit comes just days after Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta was in Skopje for talks focused on European integration and improvement of bilateral relations.

Meta discussed with Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski the speeding up the completion of the railway connection between the two countries, which he said was a project of strategic urgency for them in view of enhancing bilateral as well as regional cooperation along the EU-defined transport Corridor 8.

Albania’s Defence Minister Mimi Kodheli also visited Macedonia last week.

In her talks with Nikola Gruevski the two sides addressed defence issues and projects and possibilities for advancing bilateral cooperation.
