MPs abandon Parliament for electoral campaign
Elections have influenced the Parliament’s work, as seen with the postponement of meetings due to the absence of Parliament Members.
A concrete case is the commission of laws, which should have discussed some important laws but the majority didn’t have the right number of Mps.
The meeting was cancelled although the Chairman of the Commission postponed it twice. Xhafaj is known to be very punctual with times and journalists.
One of the interesting draft law is the initiative of thre MPs from different political forces, Nard Ndoka of the PDK, Majlinda Rira of the SMI and Kozma Dashi of the DP. They propoze an amend of the law for amnesty.
The law gives amnesty only to those who have built illegally on their land in a given time, but not to those who have built without permit on a private or public land, which is sentenced to five years in prison.
The initiative foresees amnesty for this category that has committed the violation until April 10th 2014, with the argument that the state cannot use two standards.
This initiative has not been discussed yet at the Commission of laws, but Journalists were seen together with MP Nard Ndoka and the Democratic Party MP, Astrit Veliu, accused of building without permit on someone else’s land.
