President meets German counterpart in Berlin

The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, met in Berlin with his German counterpart, Joachim Gauck, with whom he spoke about reinforcing and enlarging the relations between both countries. They also discussed about the reforms that our country is following for the European Integration, and other issues related to the security in Western Balkan.

President Nishani thanked President Gauck for the support of Germany to Albania in the EU and NATo accession, and also for being one of the biggest donators to Albania since the fall of the communist regime. He guaranteed his counterpart that Albania is determined to realize all necessary reforms for the EU.

As for the reforms, NIshani focused on the judiciary one, and also on the fight against judiciary corruption, as one of the key reforms for reinforcing the institutions.

The Albanian President spoke about the economic cooperation between our countries, by focusing on the unexploited opportunities especially in energy, mining industry, infrastructure and agriculture.

As for the increased number of Albanian asylum seekers, an interest shown by the German President, Nishani said he has instructed the Albanian government to make repatriation and reintegration easier, and to start an awareness campaign for stopping this phenomenon.

Gauck guaranteed Nishani that Germany will keep helping Albania in fulfilling the reforms that help reinforce the rule of law and that bring the country closer to the EU.
