Spain to face Italy, Albania, Israel, Macedonia and Liechtenstein in Group G 2018 World Cup qualifying
Spain have drawn Italy, Albania, Israel, Macedonia and Liechtenstein in Group G for their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, beginning their 30 month journey to World Cup vengeance.
Spain have learned their path to redemption following their disastrous 2014 World Cup collapse and as their begin their 11th consecutive World Cup qualifying campaign, they have been drawn into a group that poses no real threat other than Italy, giving them an incredible opportunity to start the 2018 World Cup with the right foot forward.
Spain were drawn into the European Group G, with long-time rivals Italy (17th) but there remainder of the group haven’t even cracked the top 25 in FIFA’s World Rankings with Albania the highest after Italy in 36th place, Israel 51st, Macedonia in 105th and Liechtenstein in 147th position. Group G allows Vicente Del Bosque prepare his squad for the future as he prepares to leave his role as manager following the Euro 2016 tournament, preparing the future coach for a successful term with some of the brightest young talents in world football.
Spain have avoided Europe’s Group of Death in qualifying, which is undoubtedly Group A, which features Holland, France and Sweden, followed by Bulgaria, Belarus and Luxembourg. Spain’s campaign begins in September 2016, their first action as a national team following next summer’s Euro 2016 tournament and could feature their new manager and will conclude in October 2017.
