Two 20-year-old men were arrested by Gjirokastër Police after they were caught transporting four migrants for payment, who had entered Albania illegally across the border with Greece.
The young men were stopped on the Gjirokastër-Tepelenë road, at the location known as “Uji i Ftohtë”, while travelling in a Volkswagen vehicle. According to police, they did not obey the officers’ order to stop. As part of the operation codenamed “Long Wait”, the vehicle and two mobile phones were seized.
The procedural materials have been referred to the Gjirokastër Prosecutor’s Office for further action, for the criminal offences of facilitating illegal border crossing and disobeying a police order.
