The Socialist Party deputy, Zegjine Çaushi, has responded to claims on social media that she bought an apartment in Tirana worth 240 thousand euros, only a few months after she took up her parliamentary mandate. Her reaction came after a follower’s comment questioned how she had been able to afford such a purchase after a short period in politics.
“240 thousand euros, a house with 1 year as a deputy”, the commenter wrote on social media. Çaushi responded directly, denying the figure mentioned and explaining that it concerns an apartment reserved in a building that has not yet started construction.
“Well now, what is your basis for claiming that I got a house for 240 thousand euros? Or is it enough to make up a figure and say it as if it were true?”, the deputy wrote in her reply.
According to her, the apartment was reserved through a loan and installment payments, a method of financing that, as she stresses, is used by many Albanian citizens. “I reserved an apartment, as thousands of Albanians do, with a loan and installments, in a building that has not yet started construction. I did not receive any completed home”, Çaushi explains.
At the end of her reaction, the deputy asked commenters to present evidence for their claims, rejecting the publication of figures she described as false. “If you have facts for what you claim, present them. Otherwise, don’t make up figures and don’t sell them as truth in comments from behind the keyboard”, Zegjine Çaushi concluded her reaction.
