Shaban Brika, the protester who has become one of the most prominent figures at the protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office because of the national flag he is holding, has accused the police of threatening him with arrest.
In a statement to News24, Brika claimed that a police commander warned him 3-4 times that he would be arrested for carrying the Albanian flag during the protest. According to him, these threats were not accompanied by any argument or explanation.
The protester said that the red-and-black flag has a special emotional value for him, as he had been without it during his years of emigration. He said he returned from England specifically to take part in the protest and to wave the national symbol.
Brika rejected any claim that he could be paid to carry the flag, stressing that his action is connected only to feelings and to the bond he has with Albania. “I came from England only for this flag,” he said, while repeating the claim that he has been threatened several times with arrest by police officers.
