Prime Minister Edi Rama has shared the family photo from the Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit, taking place in Miloçer, near Budva, Montenegro. The meeting brings together the leaders of the six Western Balkan countries — Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina — along with representatives of European countries and institutions.
The summit aims to strengthen regional cooperation and advance the European integration process of the Western Balkans. The discussions focus on economic development, increasing competitiveness, regional security and expanding cooperation among the countries of the region. The meeting takes place within the framework of the Berlin Process, an initiative that seeks to further bring the Western Balkans closer to the European Union through economic and political cooperation.
As protests have erupted across Europe, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz delivered a strong message, saying that violence and polarization cannot be answers to political challenges. Merz called for dialogue, stability and continued reforms.
“We are all watching the protests across the region, across Europe and in our own countries. These protests send a clear message: we must continue with the enlargement process and make sure that our citizens benefit from it”, he declared. The German Chancellor said that violence should never be an alternative for either side.
In the 13 years of the Berlin Process, Albania has received over 1 billion euros, mainly grants for road infrastructure, irrigation and drainage. According to economics expert Fatos Çoçoli, the new funds, including 152 million euros for the Great Ring Road of Tirana, confirm the benefits of this process. To benefit from the other 6 billion euros of European funds, Albania must meet the conditions and implement the required reforms. At the latest summit in London, agreements were signed on the recognition of diplomas, the Regional Common Market and free trade.
