U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), to take on the role of White House press secretary. The request was made in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“Dana will be a Press Secretary like no other,” Trump wrote. “Dana, please accept the job!” The post comes at a time when the White House press secretary position has been vacant since mid-October, after Katie Zacharia left after only a few days in the role.
The BBC has contacted the White House and TKO Holdings, the parent company of the UFC, for comment. Trump’s request follows the loss of congressional majorities by Republicans in the US midterm elections, a setback for his party.
