Pope Leo XIV is in good health and ready to begin a 12-day visit to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, less than a month after surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed that the Pope is recovering well and does not need any further medical treatment, as the illness was localized. During the trip, from November 6 to 17, he is expected to travel some 31,000 kilometers, visit 10 cities and deliver 36 speeches.
Although the schedule is quite intensive, the Vatican does not foresee any additional medical measures. The medical team and ambulances will accompany the Pope throughout the visit.
One of the stops will be the city of Cusco in Peru, at an altitude of 3,399 meters, where difficulties may arise due to the lack of oxygen. However, medical experts assess that the risk of complications after surgery is low and that the Pope’s recovery is progressing well.
