For about two months, lawyers will return to their normal activities from Monday. The decision was taken this Friday by the General Council of the Chamber of Advocates, following the decision of the Administrative Court of Appeal to suspend the boycott.
The head of the Chamber of Advocates, Maks Haxhia, said the decision to end the boycott comes in implementation of the provisional measure set by the court, while the legal battle against the GJKKO regulation will continue in parallel. Haxhia clarified that the Chamber of Advocates had called for the conflict to be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding, while criticizing the way, in his view, institutional authority has been used.
“From the very first days, the Chamber of Advocates has wanted everything to be resolved through understanding and discussions”, he said. Furthermore, the head of the Chamber stressed that the General Council’s decision was taken after becoming aware of the situation and the decision of the Administrative Appeal Court. “Faced with this reality, the General Council decided that, in implementation of this decision, it would end the boycott starting Monday”, Haxhia declared.
However, ending the boycott does not mark the lawyers’ withdrawal from opposing the GJKKO regulation. According to Haxhia, a working group has been set up, which will pursue the legal procedures and file the relevant appeal with the Administrative Court of Appeal. Lawyers return to activity from Monday, while the institutional clash over the GJKKO regulation will continue now through the courts.
