The insults and mud thrown at citizens who are protesting have become the last refuge of a government that does not want to face the truth. Albania knows who must be held accountable for corruption, abuse of power and the theft of citizens’ trust. Responsibility cannot be hidden behind attacks on protesters, nor relativized through propaganda.
When citizens demand justice and accountability, while the government uses its parliamentary vote to prevent the arrest of suspected officials, then serious questions arise about the standards of equality before the law. No one can be above the law.
Citizens who protest cannot become the target of insults simply because they demand responsibility. Albania needs justice, transparency and institutions that protect the public interest, not a government that evades accountability and attacks those who demand accountability and responsibility.
