The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared that the efforts of Prime Minister Edi Rama to divide the student protest have failed, describing them as a shameful and desperate attempt.
In a statement to the media, Berisha said that students and high school pupils are not demanding the improvement of the government, but the removal of Edi Rama from power.
He also used harsh language toward those who, in his view, are trying to create division within the protest, calling them “Jago of the student revolt”.
“The outraged students and high school pupils have written off Edi Rama. They never believe he can improve. They are convinced he has committed serious crimes and must leave power immediately”, Berisha declared.
The PD leader called for broad support for the student protest, stressing that political and programmatic differences should not prevent unity against the government.
Berisha also condemned police violence and demanded the immediate release of students taken to police stations.
Finally, he also addressed police officers, urging them not to become part of what he described as violence against protesters.
“Throw away your caps, join the students, because the students are fighting a battle for every Albanian, including the police and their children”, Berisha concluded.
