The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has reacted with a heartfelt message on the passing of former ambassador Bashkim Zeneli.
In a post, Veliaj expressed grief over the loss of his friend, praising his contribution to diplomacy and politics, and gratefully recalled the human gesture Zeneli made toward him even in the most difficult days of his life.
Veliaj described him as a noble friend and a personality who will remain long in the memory of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Farewell, dear Bashkim!
Albania lost a diplomat par excellence, the Socialist Party an brilliant intellectual, and I a noble friend, whom I will never forget.
Even in his most difficult days, noble Bashkim found the time and care to remember me, sending me his two wonderful books. A human gesture that I will always keep with gratitude.
My deepest condolences to the family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, dear friend!”, Veliaj wrote.
