Prime Minister Edi Rama has chosen not to give importance to the accusations made by Erion Veliaj, who, from the Fier prison, has accused him of exerting pressure on him through minister Toni Gogu, demanding that he resign as head of the Tirana Municipality and linking this to the protests. Asked about these claims, Rama described them as unimportant noise, drawing a comparison with traffic on the Boulevard. “Others are like these noises from the cars that come and go on the Boulevard,” the prime minister said, suggesting that Veliaj’s accusations are not a concern for him.
At the centre of his statement, Rama placed the European Commission’s progress report, which he described as a reflection of the government’s work and a positive assessment of Albania’s progress towards European integration. “The progress report is, first and foremost, a mirror of the government’s work. Anyone who wants to know what kind of government it is can read the progress report and find the government’s report card there. A report card that makes me happy,” Rama declared.
The head of government stressed that Albania has made great progress, but, in his view, this development is not sufficiently reflected in citizens’ perceptions due to what he called public disinformation. “The government is on duty and continues to work every day,” Rama said, emphasising that the main objective remains Albania’s accession to the European Union.
