Napoli’s situation is becoming increasingly alarming. The defeat in Turin has deepened the crisis of the team led by Massimiliano Allegri, while question marks over the future of the Italian coach’s project are growing.
The start of the season has been far from expectations for the Neapolitans. After ten matchdays, Napoli have collected just 14 points, with four defeats. The gap to leaders Lazio has grown to 18 points, while Como, who hold fourth place, are nine points ahead. Under these circumstances, the goal of a place in the Champions League is becoming increasingly difficult.
To make the situation even more worrying, the comparison with Antonio Conte’s Napoli at the same stage of the season is not at all in Allegri’s favour. The previous coach had collected eight more points after ten matchdays.
Injuries, one of the problems that also plagued Napoli last season, can no longer serve as the sole justification. On the contrary, the situation in the infirmary has deteriorated significantly.
The replacements of Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Kevin De Bruyne at the end of the first half against Juventus have brought the number of players unavailable for Allegri to 11. A severe blow ahead of two important matches against Porto away and Lazio at home.
The biggest problem for Allegri remains the lack of results. The Italian coach, who has recorded 326 wins in 554 Serie A matches in his career, is going through a difficult period.
If we consider the last ten matches of last season with Milan and the first ten meetings of this season with Napoli, the record is just 24 points from 20 matches, an average of 1.2 points per match.
