Inter coach Cristian Chivu has spoken ahead of the highly anticipated derby against Milan, stressing that his side must give their maximum and not be satisfied with what they have achieved so far.
The Nerazzurri come into this clash after seven consecutive derbies without a win against their city rivals. Chivu acknowledges that this is a statistic that raises questions, but stresses that in past matches, the episodes have not gone in Inter’s favour.
“If we have not won the derby in seven matches, it is fair to ask a question. This does not mean the players have not committed, but the episodes have not been with us. I also remember last season. We must have balance and motivation, and make some more sacrifices than in other matches,” said the Inter coach.
The Inter boss also tried to lower expectations about the importance of the derby in the title race, reminding that the league is still in its early stages.
“We are only in week ten. History and last season have taught me that a derby is not necessarily decisive. It is clear that this match can give a lot to one side and take something from the other, but it does not determine everything. Milan beat us and then lost to Lazio,” he stressed.
Finally, Chivu was clear that in a derby like this, there can be no talk of favourites.
“There is no favourite in a derby. You find your energy in motivation and the pride to win such a match. The pressure is on everyone. We must think only about doing the right things at the right moment. We all know what a derby gives you when you win it and what it takes from you when you lose it,” concluded the Inter coach.
