Anthony Gordon insists Barcelona are on the same level as Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, despite their recent defeats. Hansi Flick’s side, unbeaten until October 20, lost 4-2 to PSG in Paris and then suffered a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in El Clasico on October 25. Gordon accepted responsibility for the two defeats, describing them as the biggest matches of the season, but stressed that he does not believe the opponents are superior. He believes Barcelona are a fantastic team and can beat any opponent, citing fatigue as a factor in the match against PSG, as their opponents had rested their entire squad in the league, a privilege Barcelona did not have.
Regarding El Clasico, Gordon expressed the belief that his team deserved to win. He emphasized that Barcelona were the better team on the pitch, with more possession and better chances, but mistakes at the back led to two bad goals, including the late one from Kylian Mbappe. He admitted that mistakes against opponents of this level are costly, but promised the team will learn from these experiences and is excited to play against such teams again to show their true potential.
Barcelona will host Premier League side Aston Villa on Tuesday in the Champions League, before visiting Atletico Madrid on Sunday in La Liga. Gordon stressed that his motivation is always the same, regardless of Villa being an English team. He praised Aston Villa as a very good team with an excellent coach, Unai Emery, predicting a very difficult match. Villa have a 100% record in the Champions League this season, beating Viking, Fenerbahce and Club Brugge. Gordon, 25, who transferred from Newcastle in the summer for a fee that could reach 80 million euros, has scored three goals and provided five assists in 13 appearances. He believes his best has yet to be seen and that he will need time to fully adapt.
