Egnatia earned a point in the difficult away trip to Aarhus in the Conference League, but Albanian champions are left with regrets for failing to take advantage of the chance to win. The Danish side’s red card raised Egnatia’s hopes of a win, but the match ended in a draw.
After the match, Egnatia players valued the point they had taken, but admitted that the way events unfolded on the pitch left a bitter taste. Ildi Gruda stressed that the team had the chance to do better, although he considers the result positive in a difficult away game.
“The match didn’t go badly, although we could have done better, because we had our chances. One point is enough and we are satisfied. We came here to win, but we would have accepted a point even if it had been guaranteed to us before the match”, Gruda said.
Defender Elion Sota also admitted that the draw was an acceptable result before the meeting, but the flow of the match changed the expectations of the Albanian team.
“We played away against a very strong opponent, who won the championship in Denmark last year. The Danish league is of a high level. Before the match we would have been happy with one point, but the way the match went made me realize that we were disappointed, both me and my teammates”, Sota declared.
