Kylian Mbappé has praised Real Madrid’s collective performance after the 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clásico, stressing that success against their eternal rivals is the result of teamwork. In statements given to the club’s official channel after the match, Mbappé emphasised that the main credit for the triumph belongs to the entire team.
“This was a team victory. The real star of the match is the team and the group. We knew we had to put in a collective performance, and we prepared well during the last matches, winning and showing good performances, with a strong mentality”, the Frenchman said.
He acknowledged that facing Barcelona was not easy, as Madrid went through difficult moments even during periods when they controlled the game.
“Today we showed everything we have. We had difficult moments during the match, even when we were in control of the game. In the end, the victory and staying in the title race are very important. We must keep working, because this was a big match, but it only gives us three points. There are still many points to win if we want to take the title”, Mbappé declared.
For Mbappé, El Clásico was another special evening on an individual level as well. The Frenchman scored two goals in this clash, bringing his tally to 14 goals in 13 matches this season, and also reached the milestone of 100 goals in a Real Madrid shirt.
“I am very happy. Everyone knows I like to help the team by scoring goals, but today that is only a detail, because the most important thing is the team’s victory. I believe this triumph will give the group a lot of confidence. As for the goals, I think I will score many more”, he said.
