Gary Neville has leveled strong accusations against several Manchester United players, calling them unprofessional and blaming them for the team’s disappointing results. The former United captain believes the players have lost respect for head coach Michael Carrick, while the future of the latter in the job is increasingly uncertain.
The 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, following the 4-1 loss to Como, has increased the pressure on Manchester United and their manager. The negative results have prompted numerous criticisms, while Neville has pointed the finger at the attitude and commitment of several players. Speaking on the Sky Sports podcast, the former English defender claimed that the footballers have not been honest with the manager.
“They played him, didn’t they? They deceived him for several months. Yes, they really did deceive him. There are some of them who don’t behave professionally enough. Some don’t sleep at the right time, don’t eat properly, and don’t have Manchester United on their mind all day long. They don’t live for this club the way professional footballers should. They’ve become arrogant, and some of them are worth nothing,” he said in harsh terms.
The former United captain also dwelt on the relationship between Carrick and the players, citing Bruno Fernandes’ comments as a worrying sign about the situation within the squad.
“He hasn’t managed to get the best out of these players and they have turned against him. If Bruno has publicly criticized him with those statements, imagine what might be said behind closed doors. And if these are the words of the captain, imagine what happens in the dressing rooms when no one is listening. This is alarming,” Neville stressed.
