Harry Kane’s return to the pitch after winning the 2026 Golden Boot did not go as expected. The English striker, who was named the winner of the prestigious award at the ceremony held in London, had a difficult evening in the derby against Borussia Dortmund.
In the Bundesliga clash, Bayern Munich had the chance to break away at the top of the table, but failed to capitalise on one of the match’s most important opportunities.
With the Bavarians leading 1-0 early in the second half, Harry Kane had the ideal chance to double the lead and deliver a heavy blow to Dortmund.
The Englishman took responsibility for taking the penalty, but this time his usual composure was not enough. The striker’s shot hit the crossbar, denying Bayern a second goal.
The mistake weighed even more heavily after the final whistle, as Borussia Dortmund managed to avoid defeat and the game ended 2-2. As a result, Bayern missed the opportunity to create a significant gap at the top of the standings.
Before kick-off, Harry Kane was the centre of attention at the “Allianz Arena”. The English striker was introduced to around 75,000 fans holding the Golden Boot trophy in his hands, while a giant inscription “Ëinner”, in gold letters, had also been placed on the pitch.
Kane became the first active Golden Boot winner in the Bundesliga since 1996, when the award was won by Matthias Sammer, then a member of Borussia Dortmund.
