An amusing episode during the Premier League match between Brentford and Liverpool has gone viral on social media. The protagonist was British comedian Lloyd Griffith, who fulfilled a long-held wish by heading back onto the pitch a ball that had been sent into the stands after a shot by Alexis Mac Allister.
The Brentford vs. Liverpool clash at the “Gtech Community” Stadium on Saturday brought not only sporting emotion but also a moment that caused laughter among fans.
Griffith, known for his appearances on the sports show Soccer AM and a supporter of Grimsby Town, was in the stands when an inaccurate shot from Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister flew toward where he was seated.
The comedian did not miss his chance. He jumped up quickly, moved past the fans beside him and, with a header, sent the ball back toward the pitch. His spontaneous action drew laughter from those around him, while the footage spread rapidly on social media.
Griffith explained that he had been waiting for a similar opportunity since 1990, when he started following football matches, before his wish came true in the match between Liverpool and Brentford, which ended with a 2-1 win for The Reds.
