The Manchester United legend has not spared criticism of the players after the team’s slump in results. The 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford and a run of eight matches without a win have increased pressure on the squad and manager Michael Carrick.
Wayne Rooney has exploded at Manchester United players, sharply criticising their lack of commitment and fight on the pitch. The former club captain has not hidden his emotions after the team’s latest disappointing results.
United suffered a 4-1 defeat to Como last week, before being beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at home on Sunday. Following that result, fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the players, while the team is going through a difficult period, with eight consecutive matches without a win.
Speaking on the programme “Stick to United”, Rooney questioned the players’ commitment and the way they are representing the club’s shirt.
“I was a player who could score goals and had quality, but at least I ran, worked hard and gave everything for the team, even when things were going badly. These players are not doing that,” he stated.
Rooney said he would want to walk into the dressing room to hold the players to account.
“I’d love to walk into that dressing room, sit everyone down and ask them: What the hell are you doing? What kind of performance do you think this is? Do you think you deserve to wear that shirt, judging by the way you move on the pitch?” the former striker said.
Meanwhile, the poor results have raised questions about the future of Michael Carrick in the Manchester United dugout. According to reports, the club’s leadership has given the manager one last chance to improve the situation.
