Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come out in support of Michael Carrick at a delicate moment for the Manchester United manager. The Red Devils legend believes his former teammate has everything needed to turn things around at Old Trafford, despite the negative results and mounting pressure.
In a statement to TV2, Solskjaer revealed that Carrick has a strong and ruthless side that not everyone knows.
“Michael has everything needed to take this club forward. Perhaps people don’t see that side of him, but he has the devil inside him. I am like that too! We are extremely similar,” the Norwegian said.
Solskjaer also praised Carrick’s knowledge of the history, fans and identity of Manchester United, considering him the right man to lead the team.
Manchester United is going through one of the most difficult periods of recent years, with nine consecutive matches without a win in all competitions and a league start that is reported to be the worst in 40 years. The 2-0 defeat to Chelsea has added even more pressure on Carrick.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer does not hide his desire to one day return to the Red Devils’ dugout. He admitted that he still feels a special bond with the club, where he spent almost two decades as a player and manager.
“I feel I still have unfinished business at Manchester United. It would be nice to have another opportunity. If one day Michael stays for ten years and then decides to leave, while the club asks me to manage the team for two months, I would certainly not refuse,” he declared.
Solskjaer managed United for about three years, after 11 seasons as a player, during which he won ten major trophies.
