The death of Tenerife footballer Jesús De Miguel has deeply shocked the football world, touching well-known figures of international football as well.
One of the players who has been particularly hard hit by this tragedy is Barcelona striker Raphinha. After the 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the Champions League, the Brazilian spoke about his emotional state, admitting that news of his colleague’s death had shaken him and that during the day he had found it difficult to concentrate on the match.
“Honestly, it was very difficult for me. Today, when I woke up and saw the news, I spoke with my wife. Of course, I didn’t feel well. I had a very bad feeling,” the Brazilian forward said.
What has affected Raphinha most is the fact that such a tragic event can happen to any footballer, regardless of level or experience.
“After all, he was a colleague, and something like this can happen to anyone. It could happen to me, or to any other footballer who steps onto the pitch today,” the Barcelona player stated.
His words show the shock this event has caused among footballers, prompting them to reflect on the risks that may accompany their profession.
Raphinha admitted that the fact Jesús De Miguel was almost his own age made it even harder to cope with the news.
“Moreover, he was a footballer of my age. I don’t know if that is the reason I was affected even more, but today I have not had a good day at all because of this news,” the Brazilian concluded.
