Fake asylum-seekers from Albania to be denied EU entry for three years
The high influx of Albanian migrants applying for political asylum in European countries has brought more severe measures by the Belgian government, Albanian Daily News reported on Wednesday.
Theo Francken, Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration in Belgium, stressed that no abuse of asylum claims will be tolerated.
"Visa liberalization allows free travel for 90 days in the Schengen area. This of course means that any abuse of asylum claims or overstays in the Schengen area will not be tolerated and anyone who would abuse with this will be refused entry into the Schengen area for three years," Francken said.
But the Belgian official said that so far there is no danger for the return of the visa regime.
"Belgium has not issued any alert for this, but it is very clear that the Belgian government, in cooperation with the Albanian government, must fight any kind of abuse," he added.
