Fleckenstein: End of boycott, a positive development for democracy
Parliament's Speaker Ilir Meta met with Rapporteur for Albania at the European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein, with whom he discussed the progress of European integration, with particular focus on consolidating political dialogue and cooperation in the Parliament.
Meta expressed his gratitude for the efforts of Fleckenstein and Eduard Kukan and for the continuing commitment of the European Parliament in supporting the political dialogue and spirit of constructive cooperation in Albania.
In this context, Meta praised the return of the opposition in the Parliament in December and emphasized the willingness to welcome a more active engagement of all political parties and civil society interest groups, in order to fulfill the priorities that requires European integration.
Rapporteur for Albania at the European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein, said that the end of the parliamentary boycott of the opposition, is a positive development for the Albanian democracy, noting that the European Parliament will always be close to Albania, to help the country move faster towards EU. In conclusion, Meta and Fleckenstein shared the same opinion that the Parliament has an important role when it comes to the cooperation of political parties.
