Kumanova residents return to their destroyed homes
16 hours of heavy fire exchange have destroyed the homes of the Lagjja e Trimave in Kumanovo. Everything that Azem Ibrahimi had built during his entire life was destroyed in less than one day. However, more than to worry about his property, he is thankful that none of his relatives was hurt.
“I don’t know how to describe this harsh war. Heavy and light weapons were used. When I heard the explosions I thought my family would not be alive. I was thankful when I saw them well”, he declared.
Azem’s house corridor is filled with blood. He heard that his house was used as position by the Macedonian police, but the number of victims is unknown.
Femi Hajdari, another resident, says: “There is blood and signs of confrontation. We heard people have died, but we don’t know how many”.
Residents hurried up to their homes, while the gun powder could still be smelled.
“The attack started at 06:00, when everyone was sleeping. They woke up into a war, without knowing who was fighting whom. They saw helicopters shooting just like in Vukovar. Their homes used to be well decorated and now they look like a scene from Syria”, says Hahi Ibrahimi.
15 houses were destroyed during these 16 hours of firefight, including some shops and vehicles, while the streets were full of bullet shells.
