“Ryszard Kapuściński: The Poet of Reportage” – exhibition in Albania

At the exposition’s inauguration in the Town Hall’s Stateroom, Polish Ambassador to Albania Marek Jeziorski and Shkoder’s City Mayor Lorenc Luka said that the works by Ryszard Kapuściński play an important role in shaping civil society in post-communist countries, and in building good relations between Poland and Albania, also in the field of culture.

Visitors were offered printed catalogues published by the embassy, with reviews of Albanian editions of Kapuściński’s books. Last year the same exhibition was shown in downtown Tirana.

Recent years have seen three books by Ryszard Kapuściński published in Albanian: “The Emperor,” “Imperium,” and, in 2013, “Travels with Herodotus.” All of them were translated by Astrit Beqiraj.  The latter publication earned him the Translator of the Year distinction at last year’s international Tirana Book Fair. For his lifetime achievements in translating Polish literature into Albanian, Beqiraj was also awarded a silver Gloria Artis medal by the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
