Prime Minister Edi Rama is holding a meeting on Wednesday with heads of the banking system, following violent attacks by protesters who damaged 38 bank branches and 42 ATMs in Tirana. Rama said the government will make no concessions to violent protesters who, over these days, have attacked institutions, businesses, banks and police forces. Stressing that the protesters have taken Tirana hostage, Rama said the violence is orchestrated and supported by foreign forces that aim to destabilize Europe.
”It was very important that we also hold this meeting with you, after a hysteria of violence that took Tirana hostage, creating the idea of an escalation that could spread to all of Albania. There will be no concessions from us. This is orchestrated violence, linked to external elements. It is also happening in other European capitals through a neo-communist Marxist movement called ‘Antifa’.
Extremist boys and girls who call, as in medieval times, for imprisoning and exiling anyone they consider to represent evil, and on the other side the component of criminality. Petty crime from the neighborhoods is joining with the sponsorship of organized crime. Then they have support from foreign forces that aim to destabilize Europe. These elements are not students. That part is not the instigator or supporter of violence”, Rama said, among other things.
