Independent MP Marjana Koçeku has expressed her support for the students’ protest, describing it as an important expression of democracy.
Speaking to News24, Koçeku said she does not agree that the protests are harming Albania’s path toward the European Union, stressing that the problems undermining the country’s image are corruption and the lack of democracy.
“I strongly support this protest; it is the breath of democracy. It is the students’ right. I do not agree that this protest is harming Albania’s path toward the EU. What is damaging Albania’s image and its path toward the EU is corruption and the lack of democracy”, said Koçeku.
According to Koçeku, the Socialist Party, as the governing force, also needs a healthier dialogue and more critical voices that support the students’ right to protest.
“Political parties in Albania need reform, internal democracy. The Socialist Party, as the party in power, needs a healthier dialogue and more critical voices that support this protest now or never”, Koçeku said.
