Protests in Albania and public dissatisfaction with the government have drawn the attention of international media. The prestigious French newspaper “Le Monde” has devoted an article to the situation in the country, focusing on the persistence of the student movement and the escalation of tensions between protesters and the State Police.
According to the French media’s reporting, after months of protests, citizens continue to demand political change, making it clear that their dissatisfaction has not faded. On the contrary, clashes with police and measures taken by the authorities do not appear to have curbed civic mobilization. “Le Monde” also addresses the reaction of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who, faced with the tense situation, has announced new legal measures. Meanwhile, protesters continue to demand his removal from power.
The article also gives particular attention to the political climate and the state of democracy in Albania, highlighting the dissatisfaction accumulated over the years and citizens’ expectations for a democratic and functional state. French media also mention the deterioration of the situation since 13 October, as well as the injury of 28-year-old Erjon Vishkulli, as one of the episodes that accompanied the escalation of the protests.
In its reflection on developments in Albania, “Le Monde” also gives voice to citizens, who express weariness with a prolonged political situation and a demand for more democracy. “A democratic country, 35 years after the fall of the communist dictatorship in 1991” remains the aspiration that the article conveys through the voices of the protesters.
