A 32-year-old man from Tirana was arrested in Gjirokastër after being caught transporting, for payment, an Afghan migrant who had entered Albania illegally from Greece.
The coded operation “Zona 3” was carried out by the Gjirokastër Police. The Renault vehicle was stopped on the Sarandë-Gjirokastër road, near the “Kardhiq Bridge”.
K. B., 32, was taken into custody on the spot, while the passenger, M. Gj., 27, was also criminally charged for failing to report a crime and for smuggled goods.
During checks it emerged that the 32-year-old had violated the security measure “House arrest”, imposed by the Tirana Court.
Police also found two bags of clothing in the vehicle, suspected to be smuggled goods. The car, the clothing and two mobile phones were seized as material evidence.
The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
